Cost of Doing Business

The following is a breakdown of locally assessed taxes:


2016 Effective Property Taxes (per $1,000 of FMV)

Real and personal property in Bartow County is assessed on 40 percent (40%) fair market value (FMV).  The assessed value is then multiplied by the total mill rate for the jurisdiction to calculate the tax bill.
  1. Sample Tax Calculation:  $1,000 FMV x 40% = $400
  2. Using unincorporated Bartow:  $400 x .02821 = $11.28
  • Bartow County Unincorporated, 28.21 mills = $11.28
  • City of Cartersville, 30.31 mills = $12.12
  • City of Adairsville, 32.90 mills = $13.16
  • City of Emerson, 31.37 mills = $12.55
  • Cities of Euharlee, Kingston, Taylorsville, & White, 29.50 mills = $11.80


Bartow County's sales tax rate is 7%:
  • 4% State
  • 1% Local E-SPLOST (Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax)
  • 1% Local SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax)
  • 1% Local LOST (Local Option Sales Tax)

Sales tax is not applicable to water or sewer services.

The State's 4% sales tax on energy used in the manufacturing process has been eliminated, made possible by Georgia HB386.


Hotel / Motel Tax

Overnight visitors to Bartow County will pay sales tax, and Hotel/Motel Tax.
  • City of Cartersville – Hotel/Motel Tax: 8%
  • Bartow County – Hotel/Motel Tax: 8%
  • City of Adairsville – Hotel/Motel Tax: 8%
