Georgia Governor Nathan Deal recently recognized Shaw Industries Group, Inc. (Shaw) among Georgia companies that expanded international markets in 2013.  Shaw received a GLOBE (Georgia Launching Opportunities By Exporting) Award from the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) during the Go Global reception hosted by GDEcD on Feb. 18.

'International trade plays a key role in maintaining Georgia as a leader in the global marketplace," said GDEcD Commissioner Chris Carr.  "With 14,500 exporters in our state, it is important that we not only encourage companies to explore international markets, but also recognize the companies that have been successful in this venture."

Shaw exports many of its floorcovering products to markets throughout the world from its manufacturing facilities in Georgia and other U.S. locations.  In June 2013, Shaw celebrated the grand opening of its 210,000 square-foot carpet tile plant in Nanton, China.  This newly constructed facility offers customers in Asia quicker access to a wider range of fully recyclable, Cradle-to-Cradle-certified products.

"At Shaw, we're committed to servicing the needs of our customers.  That includes ensuring that we're providing the right products in the right markets," stated Vance Bell, Shaw chairman and CEO.  "In the past year, we have announced or completed more than $400 million in expansions to meet the needs of our and the shifts in market preferences.  As demonstrated by these strategic investments in 2013, we are bullish about the long-term future of our company, the success of our customers, our people, and our communities - and the future of manufacturing in America and around the world."

The Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) is the state's sales and marketing arm, the lead agency for attracting new business investment, encouraging the expansion of existing industry and small businesses, locating new markets for Georgia products, attracting tourists to Georgia, and promoting the state as a location for film, music and digital entertainment projects, as well as planning and mobilizing state resources for economic development.

The world's largest carpet manufacturer and a leading floorcovering provider, Shaw Industries Group, Inc. is a vertically integrated manufacturer that supplies carpet, hardwood, laminate, resilient, tile & stone flooring products and synthetic turn to residential and commercial markets worldwide.  A wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, Inc. with more than $4.5 billion in annual sales and 23,000 associates, Shaw is headquartered in Dalton, with salespeople and/or offices located throughout the U.S., as well as Australia, Canada, China, India, Mexico, Singapore and the United Kingdom.
