Surya Celebrates Opening of Mega-Plant in Bartow County

July 31, 2016

The growing industrial community in Bartow County received a huge boost in 2014 when Surya, a rug manufacturing company based in India, announced it was building a mega-plant in Bartow County that would bring the promise of jobs and industry.

In May, Surya delivered on that promise, opening the huge facility to a great deal of fanfare.

Welcoming a crowd that included company executives and Georgia Governor Nathan Deal, Surya cut the ribbon on the new plant, located in the Highland 75 Corporate/Industrial Park in Cartersville.

Many dignitaries were on hand to celebrate with founder Surya Tiwari and company President, Mr. Satya Tiwari, including Georgia Department of Economic Development Commissioner Chris Carr, Bartow County Sole Commissioner Steve Taylor, and Cartersville Mayor Matt Santini among others.

Surya is a dynamic marketer and distributor of home accessories ranging from rugs, pillows, throws, accent furniture, wall decor, lighting, bedding and more.

"What a difference 23 months makes," Deal said.

Surya is based in India, and Deal noted that the country is one of Georgia's leading import and export partners.

Consul General of India Nagesh Singh attended the ceremony.

Carr said Surya's annual revenue has grown from $2.7 million in 2005 to more than $111 million in revenue in 2015.

The Bartow County facility houses more than one million square feet, checking in at 1,037,000 square feet of space within the facility.

That includes approximately 80,000 square feet of office space, and the total investment represented by the new building is over $34 million.

The plant sits on a 75-acre site, with almost 24 acres being housed under Surya's roof.

The Surya plant is the latest in a string of big industrial developments in Bartow County.

Surya followed voestalpine, which held a ribbon-cutting for its new facility in 2014 and eventually added 350 jobs to the area.

In addition, B.I.G. USA is also building a corporate headquarters and production facility in Bartow County.

The initial construction phase will produce 47 jobs, with a total of 350 expected over the next five years.
